Emergency Medicine Research Fellowship
The Emergency Medicine Research Fellowship at the UMass Chan Medical School - Baystate provides graduates of emergency medicine residency with the mentored experience and didactics necessary to become successful independent investigators and future leaders in academic emergency medicine. We accept one or two fellows per year.
1-Year And 2-Year Options Are Available
The Emergency Medicine Research Fellowship integrates training in clinical and basic science emergency medicine research with didactics in clinical and translational science through the Tufts University Sackler School of Graduate Biomedical Sciences.

The Department of Emergency Medicine has a robust clinical and basic science research infrastructure in place.
With the busiest ED in Massachusetts—122,000+ visits a year—we provide research opportunities on diverse pathologies and advanced procedures. And, affiliations with the UMass Chan Medical School and UMass Amherst amplify our research opportunities.
Our highly qualified faculty can serve as mentors in a variety of research interests:
- Addiction medicine and substance use disorder
- Social emergency medicine
- Emergency medical services
- Patient safety and health services
- Emergency ultrasound
- Implementation science
- Shared decision-making and patient experience
Additionally, we work closely with other researchers in the hospital, including the ICU and the Department of Healthcare Delivery and Population Science, a health services research partnership between Baystate Health, UMass Chan Medical School, and UMass Amherst School of Public Health.
